“Personal training for your crowdfunding campaign.”**
** A phrase that was used internally to describe the offering, but sort of stuck.
We spend our professional life cheering on clients; telling them that yes, they’re ready, that they’re awesome and to just do it already. Today, we’re channelling a little bit of that advice for ourselves.
What we now call ‘Narrative’ was actually born out of an offer of assistance. One of us was running a crowdfunding campaign, and another offered some help. After initially being told “nah, I’ll be right thanks,” Robert changed his mind - and I was able to repay his assistance handing out election flyers in the rain during my CCC campaign the year before (more on that story another time).
Fast-forward four years and we’ve worked on numerous crowdfunding campaigns; working across PledgeMe, Givealittle and Kickstarter. We’ve asked questions, challenged clients and built a recipe for preparedness.
But, here’s the predicament: after earning ourselves a solid reputation as “knowing our shit”, we have been grappling with how to assist more organisations to help them get ready for crowdfunding. Because, as with everything, preparation is key.
So, we’re offering a new way to work with us.
Yes! We will be your preparation guru, hold you accountable, workshop copy with you and test your offering. Every question, worry and idea - nothing is too big, small or silly. We’ll also share all of our tools, resources and checklists that we’ve built over the past four years with you, so you have an action list to guide you through to launch day.
Our offer to you is a six-week relationship (more meaningful than a one night stand, but less maintenance than ongoing dating). We’ll share our workbook with you to get you started, have weekly catch-up sessions and make sure that every conversation is super-tangible and useful. By the end of the six weeks, you’ll be ready and raring to go, in order to bring your idea into the world.
Did you know that 63% of projects on Kickstarter fail? Yeah. We strongly believe in the power of the crowd - and we know the value of preparation in being a part of the 37% that succeed.
This is perfect if you’re:
Thinking about crowdfunding, but are not sure where to begin
Know that you want to raise cash, but aren’t sure which platform is best for you
Believe that you have a kick-ass product, but you don’t know how to bring it into the world
Have scheduled a crowdfunding campaign to go live in your marketing plan - but you’re wondering where to start
Feel like you have some of the tools to make a campaign successful but you’re doing it solo and would love some support
During the course, we will help you to navigate:
Whether crowdfunding is for you (and when is the right time)
How to decide on which platform is best for your organisation / venture
What you need to have ready before you start
Planning your key ask and looking at your copy
Testing your crowd and making sure that you have them ‘in the room’ before you launch
Our (original) crowdfunding checklist
Planning and workshopping your rewards (including support with logistics and shipping)
The most common mistakes that we’ve either been through or watched - and how to avoid them!
We've decided to offer these courses after being inundated by requests for help: and we're super keen to grow the collective wisdom, so that more organisations can successfully use crowdfunding to leverage their goals. Each session will be informative, relaxed & supportive - with lots of discussion & case studies.

"Erin and her team at Narrative are incredibly hard working and reliable, everything we wished for and more, we could not have done the Kickstarter without them. It was like we went to have a two-person team to 12, so many extra hands pulled in by Erin to ensure our campaign was a success. The quality and consistency of their work was impressive. Erin can pull in the talent that you need to run your campaign, based on the requirements of your specific business or organisation.”

Narrative took the time to understand our business and values, and what we wanted to achieve through crowdfunding. They went above and beyond to ensure we were able to build awareness, make a strong connection with a community of supporters and successfully meet our crowdfunding campaign – raising $15k in just over one month. Narrative's advice and support has been invaluable to our business and we highly recommend their services to anyone navigating the crowdfunding journey and launching an early stage start-up."
