At the Arts Centre’s Great Hall, a magical night including a banquet dinner, Hogwarts’ teaching staff, an auction, cocktails and dancing took place.
And, before the evening of frivolity took place, we also hosted young people and their families for a viewing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and a magical afternoon tea in the Great Hall. These young muggles were either actively going through cancer treatment, siblings of cancer patients, or were young people in remission. Each and every face lit up in delight when entering Hogwarts - their delight is something our team will always treasure. Everyone who attended the evening function helped us put on this afternoon of magic.
Special thanks to the following organisations, businesses and people who made the evening possible:
Crisp & Vale Catering are the most extraordinary team of wizards who created the Harry Potter-inspired feast for us all to enjoy. As well as being the creative-mind behind the feast, Hannah also managed to make the food levitate during the evening, and created an epic afternoon tea for our friends at the Child Cancer Foundation - we are her biggest fans.
Phoenix PDP: Graeme and his team conjured up Marauders Maps, seating plans & Moaning Myrtle posters (did you see her in the second floor girls' lavatory?) all in a wave of of wand.
Every goblet you charged, plate you licked, lolly jar you delightfully plucked lollies from & piece of gold cutlery you held came from the magic-makers at the Little Hire Company. Our biggest thanks to Fallon & Tom for helping Hogwarts appear for the night in Christchurch.
We still cannot believe how spectacular the Great Hall looked thanks to Pixel: they LITERALLY made the Great Hall come to life by magically changing the scenes on the wall during the evening. The smiles on the faces of the children at afternoon tea were equally matched by the adults in the evening when they saw Hogwarts had come to life!
Bellatrix Lestrange (aka Claire): thank you for helping us bring this event to life, and for all the work you & your team do every day for young children and their families - you’re as kind as Hermione, as brave as Harry & as wise as Dumbledore.
Spectrum Lighting and Sound: Our friends at Spectrum made the lights brighten, soften and sparkle during all times of the day & night in the Great Hall.
The team at Hyde Park made our feast possible by making sure we had a kitchen to cook from & tables to eat at.
We are still thinking about those Six Barrel Soda x Scapegrace Cocktails. Did you fall in love after having the Amortentia Love Potion (Hibiscus cocktail), or turn into Crabbe & Goyle after sipping on Polyjuice Potion (Lime cocktail)?
If you loved the Noble & Savage Mocktails as much as we did, we’ve heard the Three Broomsticks has popped them permanently on the drinks menu! (Lots of local cafes in Christchurch have their hot tea too…)
For all your sorting hat presentations, babysitting needs and selfie requests, we urge you to get in touch with our clever friends Adam (Harry Potter), Seb (Severus Snape), and Jase (Albus Dumbledore). We’re grateful to these fine characters to help us escape to Hogwarts for the evening. A special thanks to Harry Potter who literally apparated into the Great Hall in the afternoon to meet our special young guests.
